For the Few Reading This: With Update

I realize that some of my past posts have been confusing, for which I apologize.

The problem is I am at a crossroads, and must figure out what exactly to do with my Spakelings. I could:

a) Set this aside for a later time
b) Continue this more regularly, now that I'm settled at school, and only do quotes and book reviews
c) I could edit up the First Spake Tale and self-publish it and use this blog as a way to garner interest in my series.

I think for now I'll start with b) and then move on from there.

If any of the few people reading this has any sort of advice at all, feel free to let me know what you think about the matter.

As for the Update: I did recieve a reply to the query letter I sent out. It was a negatory. I need to read through my manuscript once more, oduble check everything, and then find another agent to query.

Unless I decide to go with c). I do admit it is a very temtping decision. But is it the best decision for this book? I'm just not sure yet.

Quote of the Month: Virginia Woolf

"She waited. She picked up a knife from the plank. He saw her standing against the green glass, the fig tree, and the blue hydrangea, knife in hand.
'She spake,' Isa murmured. 'And from her bosom's snowy antre drew the gleaming blade. 'Plunge blade!' she said. And struck. 'Faithless!' she cried. Knife, too! It broke. So too my heart,' she said" (Woolf Between the Acts 78).

BoM: Detecting Strudwick

HIEROGLYPH DETECTIVE BY NIGEL STRUDWICK

Found it: Borders Bargain Bins

Age: Intermediate

Useful: 5/5

Own it? Absolutely. And gifted to numerous friends.

Review: I picked this up super cheap thinking I might be able to learn maybe one or two interesting things from it. Boy. Was I ever wrong. The entire thing was interesting. It was written in such a way that it was easy to understand, but it wasn't dry or boring or anything like that. And the formatting was fantastic. I want to find whoever formatted this book and give them a giant hug. By the time I was finished with this book (which, it's a smaller book and easy to get through, so it doesn't take long for one to get through this wonderful gem) I actually had learned some Egyptian phrases. I nearly died from excitement. If anyone is looking for an introduction into reading Egyptian Hieroglyphs I most ardently suggest this book. It gives a wonderful basis, using actual Egyptian inscriptions from stelas and the like, providing the novice with essential vocabulary and sign understanding. I think everyone should own this book.

Where can I find this Wonderful Fantastic Book???

You May Have Noticed It's Not Monday

Omgoodness I'm so sorry my peoples. Miss Naomi worked until 6 and then was busy getting ready for the wonderful BEA event (which I will tell you about later) and completely and totally's forgot. It is NOT forgiveable. And although we were supposed to be having an interview with Kevin, that didn't happen. He decided to take a trip to London without telling us. Silly little man. So I, Amarilla, who you were lovely able to meet last month, will be telling you just a smidgen about Spakes.

Some of you have heard bits and pieces from over at Naomi's blog, others of you may have stumbled upon this blog by accident and are so confused you are trying to run away quickly but you got sidetracked because of this:

CAKE!
That looks absolutely delectable. And love the colors.
It's like a magnificent edible hat.

So I will be answering the most common questions I myself have come across, so that Naomi can have a break and go eat onion rings and yogurt in peace.

Q: Oh my Potatoes! Are Spakes like werewolves?!?!?!?!

A: No. Not really. Yes, Obadiah does tend to have a jackal-like form, this is because of the Egyptians and their weird-o mythology. It's not because he is a wolf-man. Although, there are some theories out there that werewolves originated from a Spake gone mad. A certain man named Peter Something-Or-Other. Other people think this idea is preposterous. But Hezekiah agrees with me. With the right kind of contagion and the right amount kind of DNA chemical breakdown, it is a possibility. Now that I've bored you... But there are other shapes a Spake can take. Solomon is more like an evil hippopotamus (not as cute as it sounds) and others are more feline in manner. Also, some would say a dragon-like shape, though that's yet to be determined.

Q: Okay... So what exactly IS a Spake? And where on Earth did they come from??

A: I'll skip the first part and head directly to the second. Nowhere. Spakes are not from earth. And no, before you go all sci-fi on me, they didn't come from outer space. They're from a nearby reality that spirals around our own string of realities. It's all very complicated. As to the first question. What exactly is a Spake? we don't know. Honestly, I don't think Kevs and I ever will know. Or anyone for that matter. Even the Spakes themselves. What they used to be doesn't exist anymore, and when they were pulled over into this reality they became something different. The name Spakes wasn't even a term for them until around the 1600's. (Okay, alright, yes. That is based entirely on a hypothesis by moi which may or may not be plausible. Still. I think it is.)

Q: Are they mad dangerous? Or only mildly dangerous? Like, will they kill me?

A: This depends largely on the Spake. It also depends on whether or not they would label you an Innocent, though not necessarily. There are some Innocents that Spakes like Christiana will kill anyway, just because she can and just because she's psycho. Others, like Solomon, or Obadiah, try to contain their hunger and not feed off of humans for as long as possible. Still... If you do happen to meet a Spake, try to steer clear. You never know. You might end up meeting Hezekiah who, if he doesn't kill you or impregnate you by scientific means, you might end up a test subject. So run. Discreetly.

Q: Oh my babies! Oh my Socks! Can I protect myself from them?? How do you kill them?! Help!!!

A: Calm down. Can you protect yourself? Possibly. Tree branches can prove useful at times. How do you kill them? Ha! I can't tell you that. I am supposed to keep some secrets secret, you sillies.

Q: Are there Pixies and Fairies and other mythological creatures alive in this world??

A: That is not a Spake-Related question, my lovely. Move on!

Q: If there are Spakes alive in this world and killing people in this world, does that mean that there could possibly be such creatures as Pixies, Fairies, Hob-Goblins, Vampires, Zombies, Elves, Trolls, Krakkens, Kobolts, and/or Dragons wandering around in this Reality or another one nearby???

A: Oh! Look at my wrist! It's time to go. I'll see you later my lovelies. Bye!! *dances away*
